Nuclear Reactor Theory

Reactor physics fundamentals for engineers entering the SMR and advanced-reactor industry.

What you will learn

  • Neutron interactions, cross sections and the fission chain
  • Neutron diffusion and the criticality condition
  • Reactor kinetics, delayed neutrons and reactivity feedback
  • How reactor theory shapes SMR and advanced-reactor design choices

From the classroom

Developed and taught USC AME582 Nuclear Reactor Physics (Spring 2013), a new course in USC Viterbi's Master's in Mechanical Engineering with a Nuclear Power specialization, delivered over USC's Distance Education Network. Earlier: a complete nuclear PE exam review course at General Atomics (1980) and ME512 Introduction to Nuclear Power Engineering at CSU Long Beach (1986).

All guides and courses here are newly written for IMTech. They are not the original university or Dekker, Ltd. course materials.
